My eventual solution was to create an extension that monkey-patches the functionality I want on to the ERD classes. My next attempt was to make an extension that provided a MetaModel based on the ERD one, but getting all the context menus and toolbox stuff to work seemed overly complicated. I tried modifying the js file (I eventually figured out this is because the actual executable seems to run from the minified main.js.
So I started looking at erd/ERD.js since the erd module isn't really documented at all, and it was pretty clear that there was no way to show anything besides the key info, name, and type.
